We got in, hotel was real good with good wifi (not sure how the rest of the month will pan out, wifi is not as cheap or prevalent outside the US).
We went to the Vik Muñiz exhibit at the art museum, which was mindblowing. Derivative and original genius, garbage and flowers, Warhol, Nazca drawings and Chuck Close at the same time. That guy must never sleep, i honestly have no idea how he has time to do so much work.
The show sold out, but when we got all the gear out for the first setup & soundcheck, the headstock had snapped off one of my acoustic guitars. Shit.
That means I have to use my spare, which I'm not as fond of, & gear is twice as expensive overseas. If anyone has a spare I can use in the EU, shoot me an email.
In DFW Intl Airport LizMoney texted me that Billy "OxyClean" Mays died. Another celeb (lower-case "c") died, in such a short timespan. Strange.
The weird part is I open my complimentary copy of Fly or Wings or Nexos or whatever the fuck the name of the inflight magazine is, and there's a big article on Billy Mays. I say to Greg, and the flight attendant who's been chatting us up, "oh yeah, I heard this guy died today". Instantly I hear commotion and the sound of sobbing across the aisle.
Turns out the OTHER stewardess is RELATED to Mays and hadn't heard yet!! Wild. Sometimes I become aware of a bunch of synchronicities, and around that time I fall into a crazy opportunity. Or a hurricane hits my town.
I ain't sayin', I'm just sayin'... Maybe y'all should keep the car gassed up this summer, just in case...
Ok, so far so good, I got a global Power converter w USB ports to charge the phone, so now I can use the iPhone for everything I woulda used the laptop for. Typing is gonna suck.
I can't BELIEVE I left my laptop, although when I realized we were not going to make the flight I panicked & threw on clothes & boots and pretty much scrambled outta the house before I knew what was going on. I look at it like a penance, for being such a fuckup.
Anyway G came through like a champ & got us a flight 3 hours later (with the help of the coolest American Airlines rep on the Earth), and we arrived in Brazil 3 hours after Mark, who made the first flight on time. WTF?! We got bulkhead seats with semiprivacy, and all went smooth as silk, even the connection in Dallas, where we were only 4 gates from our connection to São Paolo, and only had a 30 min wait!
Greg & I met Scott Ford & my Twilight guitar predecessor John Skibic at the Wiltern the night before we left and saw the Zombies concert, which was so killer that we had to continue the party till about 2am, which is basically what fucked up the wakeup.
Colin Blunstone sounded so goddamn good! They did all the Odessey & Oracle hits, plus 'Hold Yr Head Up" by Argent (Rod Argent's band after Zombies), and finished with "God Gave Rock 'n Roll To You", which they wrote (who knew?!). Triumphant.
Although I have no way to dump fotos or upload stuff other than txt of phone fotos, it was (at this point) worth it, to see them loooking & sounding so great, and To hang with Scott for a minute.
around 5pm yesterday (6/19/09), I heard a series of loud thumps and crashes in the hallway outside my apartment and upon opening my front door, found this:
WTF! It's the superintendent or handyman, whom Igor's let live in the building and do work on the property. Again.
I check to see if he's breathing, and he seems merely hammered, so I go back & leave thru the back door of my apartment (right?) where the hallway ends. Halfway down the stairs is where he dropped his swag, a sixpack of Miller & cigs, his shirt, and the boots & sock were further down the stairs...
I stayed out about an hour, then came home, & saw his shit still all over the stairs, so I picked it all up & laid it in front of his door, where it stayed a good 6 hours. I figure he got all dizzy from heat & drinkin' (he's incoherent by 3pm every day), came home & thought he was in his apartment as soon as he entered the building, then started taking off his clothes since he was so hot... before he was in his own apartment.
This morning, I found THIS outside my door...
Voodoo? A gift in gratitude? Who knows?
Sonny also likes to play guitar, and often enjoys cranking his amp & wailing during the early evening, before the band downstairs adds to the din... as seen HERE and HERE.
WHat do I do? It definitely affects my quality of... something, I don't know... Life? I can find it in my heart to not hate the guy, I just pity the poor dude more than anything, I mean, he means well, but should I have to live with him?
Just put guitar on Greg Dulli's version of "When Doves Cry" (featuring Apollonia) for Spin Magazine's Prince tribute album, more info here. The track was pretty much complete minus gtr, so I did my thing hoping it'd make the final edit. Which it did.

This month sees the release of "Summer’s Kiss: A Tribute to the Afghan Whigs" curated by our dear friend Lee at http://summerskiss.com/.
Check out the free download, my new band MyJeru's motown-y interpretation of the Afghan Whig's "66".
Also I produced & played everything on Mark Lanegan's cover of "Tonight". Both were done sometime around the Gutter Twins session in New Orleans at the Chateau, around Mardi Gras 2007.
